She and Him...She and Him?...She and Him!

Bonjour! So. Very important post. The very first rant of All That Glitters. I’m just going to dive in.

The new She & Him album. So many things to say…sooooo many things.

So first off, why in the heck does it have to come out on December 2nd????? Question of the day people. Why is this such a big deal? Because it’s smack dab in the middle of Christmas music time. CHRISTMAS MUSIC TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why would I stop listening to Christmas music, which is only played for about a month out of twelve, to listen to regular music?! WHY?! Good grief!!! I feel like She & Him would be more respectful of the Christmas season! Zooey of all people should know. She should know!!!!!!!

Unless this album contains at least eight songs about trees, Santa Clause, twinkle lights, snow, etc. I have no interest in listening to it for the month of December! None! You cannot justify listening to non-Christmas music during Christmas time to me!

I don’t know if you have noticed how much I love and respect Christmas time, but I love it A LOT. Now usually when my favorite singers/bands come out with new music I get so excited that I will make an exception to Christmas music time just to listen to it, but this time not so much…I was super excited when I heard it was happening. Then, I found out it was all classic songs, which Victoria and I have been waiting for, for what seems like forever! Then the first promo came out and it didn’t really give much in the way of a preview. The next promo was a little better, but THEN they put out the first single and it is bad. I do not like it. I do not like it at all. It’s a cover of Dusty Springfield’s “Stay Awhile.” Now I listened to the original version, which I hadn’t heard before, and it is much more upbeat and fun! It’s still not exactly my idea of a great song, but to each his own right? So after that I was like, “I don’t know about this one…It sort of sounds like music a druggie would get high to…so…”

Well. I proceeded to listen to all the original versions of the songs their singing and they’re all very good! With that said, I feel like all the songs they’re doing from the 50’s and 60’s are soooooo She and Him, which I love, but I was so excited to hear them do something a little different. They are so good at that retro mellow sound, but I know they’d be absolutely amazing at some older stuff with a more classic vintage sound…What? The name of the album? That’s right, it’s CLASSICS…Now I realize there are classics from all eras, but I want to hear stuff they haven’t really done yet! Not to mention their general sound on their own songs have that 60’s feel. So a good chunk of the songs ARE from before the 50’s and that makes me happy, but I am also a little apprehensive about it!!

Well of course after thinking all this their cover of “Time After Time” came out. I love it. I love it a lot. Minus M. Ward, he’s only good for some background noise when there’s nothing else going on, let’s face it. I have also heard them do Stars Fell On Alabama, which I am excited for, so currently spirits are up!

Now, this back and forth of feelings about this album lead to my next quandary: to pre-order or not to pre-order. Well, normally I’d be hopping on that train faster than you can say bippidi-boppidi-boo, but since it’s such a bad month for a non-christmas album and I simply cannot decide how I feel about the song choices, I am left to wonder! And I haaaate wondering! What if I make the wrong decision?! What if I buy it and waste precious “Jingle Bells” time and it’s terrible?! On the other hand though, what if I wait and it’s amazing and I end up being that uncool traitor She and Him fan?! What if?!

So, Victoria and I decide that we will not only ASK for it for Christmas, but we will GIFT IT TO EACHOTHER!!!!! Man are we awesome or what?! Don’t answer that.

So I think that’s all I have to say for now! I’m unsure, but hopeful about this one guys…I will do a review when I get the album and hopefully it’s a good one!! Have a lovely day!
